Forbesganj college, Forbesganj was established in 1959. It was then under the purview of Bhagalpur university. After the formation of L. N. Mithila University, the college got affiliated to it. It became a constituent of it on 1st April 1977. Later when B.N. Mandal University came into being in 1992, the college was one of its 28 constituent colleges. Forbesganj college, Forbesganj has been a constituent unit of the newly established Purnea University, Purnia since March 2018.

Geographically it is located in the India-Nepal border. Nepals industrial town Birat Nagar is merely 15 kms away from here. The border of West Bengal is only 45 Kms away in the east and the border of Bangladesh is 62 Kms from here. Another constituent college, Araria College is 35 kms from here in the south. This is to say that this college captures a sizeable area of academic growth.

This is the land where renowned novelist of hindi late Sri. Pharnishwar Nath Renu got his making. His native village is nearly 10 kms in the south from here. This college attract a large number of graduation students in the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce. This college conducts the education of UG (Hons) level as well as intermediate in all the faculties mentioned above. Since 2013 a new self-financed course (B.Ed) has been introduced to the existing curriculum.

The college has made rapid strides in over 60 years of its existence. The common facilities provided by the college include library, sports facilities and the orientation programs through NSS and NCC.

The college has 10 acres and 74 decimals of land. There are five laboratories namely, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and Psychology in which practical classes are conducted. In the campus there are facilities such as Administrative Block, Principals office, Examination Office, Accounts Office, Seminar Hall, Central Library with a reading room, one Welfare Hostel managed by the Government of Bihar and a newly-built girl’s hostel. The master plan that the college is annexing exhibits schemes and projects which are to be undertaken in near future.
